Black Twig Pickers: Back home and happy of it
Black Twig Pickers are back from a rare, and occasionally harrowing road venture that included great music-making with Charlie Parr, Lane Prekker, Aaron Rosenblum, Jack Rose and (last night) Rick the amazing washtub bassist -- plus the incredible dancers of the Floyd Country Store, who gave us a homecoming that couldn't be matched. Thanks to everyone who came out or let us sleep on their floors or threw money in the case on the Charlottesville mall or otherwise helped us make it back.
If you're reading this from somewhere near where Jack or Charlie and Lane are continuing their tours, go see them and maybe buy some cds. They're on a hard road this time out. Check their myspace sites for show locations.
We're at the Cellar tonight and WPAQ in Mount Airy next weekend, if more Twig music seems like a good idea to you.
The 19-song cdr we put together to help pay for gas sold out, but we're going to burn a few more before tonight's show and maybe it'll get listed in the klang catalog. Titled "Astro Myth Serenaders" in honor of Nathan's graduate studies of Sun Ra's poetry (hope to post his thesis here when done), it's a bunch of home recordings that maybe give some glimpse of how the new record's shaping up. Maybe some of this will end up on the next album, who knows? During the course of the week's travels, we did some recording with Charlie and Lane that at the moment are very high on the list for the album-to-be. Plus Aaron taped (I think) the until-4-a.m. jam at his house in Louisville......wonder how that sounds... Anyhow, check here for more album and show details as things develop.
